The importance of batch traceability and how Audaz can deliver this tool directly to your doorstep.

WHAT DOES BATCH TRACEABILITY MEAN TO YOUR COMPANY?

More and more companies, from small to large, are being held accountable for their final products to the consumer. Tracking these products can only be accomplished through a Batch Traceability report. As more and more business environments are becoming more dynamic and competitive, it is imperative that you know, at any given moment, where all your parts and ingredients are located. Why is a Batch Traceability report so important? As a business owner, we all know that detrimental recalls can happen when least expected. The last thing you want to worry about is a recall of your product made either from your manufacture or the FDA. But, in the case that a recall does happen, you want to be able to react immediately.

WHY IS BATCH TRACEABILITY SO IMPORTANT?

Your company’s monthly sales increased by 5% last month, and now is a great time for your frozen-food manufacturing company. The projection for frozen pizza sales through the end of the month looks fantastic as you head to the end of another quarter. Suddenly, there’s an urgent notice from one of your suppliers. The last 1,000 pounds of an ingredient you’re using is determined to be unsafe and is on recall. What do you do? Do you have a plan in place for product recall? Do you have the ability to do a product recall? Have you been tracking products to their ingredients? How quickly can you react? Perhaps the most important question you will ask is this: Where have those ingredients gone? The ability to respond quickly strengthens the trust of your customers and helps protect your reputation in the community. You need to know who you have sold product to that contains the corrupt ingredient. How will you execute the recall of all at-risk pizzas in the most expeditious and efficient way possible?

Batch-Lot Traceability Reports

Batch (or Lot) Traceability allows companies to see the genealogy of their products from beginning to end. A product’s life cycle does not begin when it enters your supply chain. Nor does it end once it leaves. Knowing where your product comes from, and tracking where it is sent to can be crucial in determining limiting the liability of your company and protecting your customers. While Batch Traceability is commonly used by companies in the food industry, it is becoming increasingly essential to many other types of businesses. Pharmaceutical companies, for example, are required by the FDA to use batch traceability. With its Batch-Lot Traceability Report, Audaz offers an automated solution for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) doing business with SAP Business One.

Automatic Batch Tracing versus Manual Tracking

Without the batch traceability report form Audaz, you are left to manual tracing of batches through your production processes. In SAP Business One, you can enter batch IDs on every transaction, thus creating the thread that sews all the transactions together. However, when you view the transactions for a batch, you only get one level of transactions and the report is not very user friendly. You have to go to the batch report, then drill down into the production issue to see what the production order is for that issue. Then, you have to go to the production order and look at the batches for that order. If this product is a finished good, you can then look at the batch report for that item and batch and get a list of deliveries. Of course this is not a nice report that you can export with the fields you need, like customer name, to handle a product recall. However, if the production order is for an intermediate product, you then have to repeat this process over and over until you get to the final level. With the Batch Traceability Report, you have a multi-generation report that shows the movement through production to the final shipment. So, you put the raw material code and the batch ID into the parameters and the Audaz report will show you everything affected by that batch. If you had a batch of tires that go on wheels and then end up on a wheelbarrow, you only need the batch of the tires and the report will let you know every customer who received a wheelbarrow with a tire from a bad batch. Audaz offers Batch or Lot traceability reports to help you take control of your product and provide visibility into where it resides, no matter what form it is in.
